Aug 17, 2011   //   by Kyle Flaherty   //   Blog, Show Preview  //  No Comments

Did you hear that Google bought Motorola Mobility for umpteen billions this week? Oh, you had heard. Well, fortunately for you, we aren’t planning on talking about that acquisition on tomorrow’s podcast. Instead we will be taking a look at some news that might have been lost in the wake of the Google move including:

  • Buddy Media securing $54M in funding. What does the future have in story for Buddy Media’s Facebook management platform that is used by 8 of the world’s top 10 brands? We’ll have Joe Ciarallo, Buddy Director of Communications join us live to answer your questions.
  • LinkedIn, which I continue to talk about here on the blog, launched a new mobile app. We will discuss what this means for the “third-wheel” social network.
  • McKinsey’s latest report, “Ten Tech-Enabled Business Trends to Watch”, is out and it is full of really interesting tidbits. Mark Schaefer has a great recap on his blog, and we plan on debating a few of these trends ourselves.
You’ll be sure we’ll have more in story for episode 90, so join us live on BlogTalkRadio on Thursday at 3pm ET/12pm PT, or subscribe in iTunes now.

Quick’n'Dirty 89 Preview: Is Social Over?

Aug 3, 2011   //   by Kyle Flaherty   //   Show Preview  //  No Comments

One of the bigger stories, right or wrong, this week in the social media world has been Facebook investor Roger McNamee’s recent comments about the future of social. Well, to be honest, he hit on MUCH more than just social. Let’s look at the topics:

  1. We are entering a post-PC era, where Microsoft “is toast”
  2. HTML5 will revolutionize advertising and media
  3. Social is “over”, now relegated to a feature
  4. Apple is an “unstoppable freight train”
  5. Facebook will eventually charge for access to the social graph
And a lot, lot more. Well in tomorrow’s Q’n'D we are going to hit on the ten main points made by McNamee and debate each between Aaron and myself.
