Episode 54 of the Quick’n'Dirty podcast welcomed Marshall Kirkpatrick, co-editor and lead writer for ReadWriteWeb. If you don’t know ReadWriteWeb, you should: it is one of the most widely read technology blogs online and it is also syndicated daily by the New York Times. Marshall is a writer that is on a bit of a pedestal for both me and co-host Aaron Strout, and it was a thrill to talk to him for about 20 minutes during the show. With a brain like Marshall’s the conversation was able to span many topics, from the integrity of today’s writers, the future of content presentation, and the role of today’s bloggers.

“Reporting the facts alone is almost becoming a commodity,” he said. “Storytelling and the role of media as curator in an ocean of content is important to ReadWriteWeb.”

Marshall also weighed in Flipboard, our social app of the week, which has taken the Internet by storm the last couple of weeks. To hear the full conversation, and how Marshall feels about robots, be sure to listen to the recap.

As usual, we celebrated our featured Twitterer of the week: Christopher Burgess (@BurgessCT). Those who listen to the podcast regularly know that Christopher is a frequent listener and participant in our chatroom, but that’s not why we chose him. We chose him because of his incredible knowledge and insight on everything from security, social media and humanitarian issues. Christopher, we love your tweets!

Finally, Aaron and I talked for a few minutes about our weekly point / counterpoint, which focused on the topic of Facebook friends. The idea for this p/c came up when I stumbled upon a blog post from our friend Ken Yeung, focusing on the idea that everyone wants to be friends with everyone on social networks. He walked through the proper “friending” etiquette and pointed out ways that many are doing it wrong, from sending invitations lacking a personal message to friend collecting. While Aaron and I only had a chance to touch on this subject, he and I do have slightly different viewpoints. He tends to be more welcoming on his social networks (though he does parse people into groups) and I just deleted near 1,000 people off of my Facebook because we either a) never interacted or b) I added them during an adding spree some months ago. Listen to the recap to find out where we landed on this topic.

This week on the Q’n'D we welcome Augie Ray of Forrester Research, who will be interviewed by Aaron and our producer, Rich Harris. Please join us live in the chat at noon PT / 3 p.m. ET.
